My Magazine Cover

Questions & Answers

1.What qualities of your magazine cover makes it effective?
The things that make my magazine cover effective is the choice of colour that I used to produce it.  I used bright and strong colours in my texts, so that it would stand out from the blue and black background.  I made sure that I used any empty spaces on the cover.  But at the same time, I made sure that I didn’t it look too congested. Overall, my use of space, size, colour, and texture has made my magzine look more eye-catching, yet professional by a little touch of everything.  It has that interesting appeal.  That is why my magazine cover looks very effective.

2. What was the order of hierarchy you were trying to achieve for the elements on your magazine cover? The order of hierarchy I was trying to achieve was:

1)  Sports Illustrated Title / My main picture
2)  Geethi Sehgal: MVP of the Year
3)  Top 20 / 6 Ways / JR Girls Volleyball
4)  February 2008

Class Task #4- Understanding Resolution

January 15, 2008 at 2:25 pm (Class Tasks)

Question & Answer

1) Will a 300 dpi image or a 72 dpi image be clearer when printed out at the same size? How come?
Yes, a 300 dpi image will be clearer when printed out at the same size because you will be able to see the detals in the picture.  If you were to print out a 72 dpi image, it’s going to really small and you’re not going to see a lot of the detail that’s in the picture.  The picture is going to end up being blurry.  If I streched the 72 dpi picture to be the same size as the 300 dpi picture, the image will become too blurry to see.  You will end up seeing the hundreds of pixels from the image you just stretched.

2) What would a picture created at 1 dpi look like?
A picture created at 1 dpi will look very small.  You won’t be able to see any of the detail
in the picture because it’s not big enough to see anything.

Questions and Answers

1.What combination of tools did you use to isolate the fruit in “fruit_combo.jpg” and where in the image did you use which tool?

The combination of tools I used to isolate the fruit in fruit_combo. jpg was the magnetic lasso and the eraser.  I used the magnetic lasso to go over my image and then delete the background.   Afterwords, if there were any small details left around the bowl, I used the eraser tool to erase the uneven edges.

2. Of the methods you used to isolate the fruit in the 3 pictures. Which method did you find most effective in this case?

Out of all the methods I used, the method I found most effective in this case was the magnetic lasso tool.  I found it useful because I was able to do a better job of isolating the fruit bowl faster.

3. Experiment with the following:
After you make a selection in the menu and go to
     a) Select > Modify > Expand

For this selection , the fruit bowl image becomes bigger or smaller based on the
         pixel size.
     b) Select > Modify > Contract
For this selection, the fruit bowl image becomes smaller or bigger based on the

pixel size.
     c) Select > Feather
For this selection, the fruit bowl image becomes smoother and gives off
a white glow.  Therefore, the image can hide hard edges and blends everything

together.

What do these do? Post a fourth image indicating that you know what  feathering does.
