Question & Answer

1.What happens when you paint part of the layer mask…black? …white? …grey?

When you paint the part of the layer mask black, you can’t see the image anymore.  Its opacity is 0%.  When you paint the part of the layer mask white, the top image comes back and the opacity is 100%.  When you paint the vector mask grey, the image is partially translucent.  This means you can see both the top and bottom image, but it’s opacity is half and half, therefore you can partially see both images.

Assignment #2- Self Portrait: Lonely Without You

Questions & Answers

a) What were you trying to express and how did you achieve this?
In this self-portrait, I was trying to express that when your lonely, your mind is not in the best moods and your face shows sorrow.  These emotions are trying to display that there’s that part of our self where we feel that we cannot handle the truth something that happened in our life unexpectedly.  Our mind and our heart feels that it’s not possible that what has happened, has happened.  We can’t change the past, but this event causes us to feel sadness.  I achieved these emotions by using shapes and dark colours to portray a more gloomy atmosphere.  The colours I used were black, dark blue, and dark purple.  I used twirls and the difference clouds to make the whole background seem negative.  This has helped to show the emotions more clearly by using the filters and the darker colours.

b) What filters did you use and where?
I tried to use a variety of filters to make my portrait more appealing.  The filters that I used are:
Difference Cloud: One of the layers for the background
Twirl: Background
Wave: Background
Fresco: My Picture

c) What layer blending mode did you use and where?
The layer blending modes I used are:
Lighten: Big Image of my face
Linear Dodge: Smaller images of my face

d) What special brush did you use and where?
The special brush that I used is called Watercolour 1.  I used it on my face in the image to help make my face look like it’s starting to crack and break any second.  I’m using that part of the image to help show that I feel like I’m breaking or already broken up when I’m alone and sad.
